Fez & Middle Atlas

Charming narrow-alley medinas, ancient Roman ruins, and picturesque whitewashed hilltop towns

Come for:

  • A never-ending labyrinth of high walled streets, winding narrow alleys, colorful souks, hidden squares and iconic medieval monuments in spectacular Fez (as well as in Meknes, often referred to as a smaller version of Marrakesh)
  • The UNESCO World Heritage ancient ruins of Volubilis, an inviting basilica of arches, pillars and beautiful mosaics
  • Picturesque, whitewashed hilltop towns with a relaxed vibe, quaint little guesthouses, and beautiful views of surrounding countryside (the holy Islamic town of Moulay Idriss)

Do not expect

  • To escape the tourist crowds – beyond Marrakesh, Fez is perhaps the most popular destinations in the country
  • The grand snow-capped mountains Morocco has to offer – head to the High Atlas region for those
